The Story

One fateful afternoon at Oregon State University, the head of the Turfgrass Program, Tom Cook, asked me a very important question, "Do you enjoy mowing grass?" before I could answer he looked at me and told me that I was wasting my talents and he knew that i was not going to be a Golf Course Superintendent, he knew I needed to pursue a career in design.

After graduating from OSU I headed to Cal Poly Pomona to become a Landcape Architect and Golf Course designer. After three great years at Cal Poly I entered the work force, joining Horton Shepardson Associates (HSA) in Palm Desert, where I got my first taste of working in the professional world of Landscape Architecture. As the key member of the graphics department at HSA, Bob got exposure to hand graphics as well as cutting edge digital rendering technologies, drafting, and construction documents, and field services. The highlight of this period was his role as the Landscape Site Coordinator for 27-holes of championship golf in Indian Wells California, helping to fulfill a dream of golf course design.

After HSA, Bob ran a successful business as Landscape Design Illustrator, specializing in Color Illustrative, Digital Color Rendering, 3D Modeling and Graphic Presentations. One of his clients, a landscape Architecture firm in Orange County, Cathcart Begin & Associates, hired Bob to be the Senior Project Manger of their firm, eventually leading him to role of Vice President of the Company.  At Cathcart Begin, Bob advanced his skills in digital rendering and 3D modeling, as well as gained tremendous exposure to constructions documents and construction detailing. Upon the retirement of Bill Cathcart and the closing of CBA, Bob reopened Land Inventions as a freelance design and rendering service for Landscape Architects, Engineers, Architects, interior Designers, and Land Developers.

Bob has a extensive background in landscape design, plant materials, irrigation, and landscape maintenance. These areas of knowledge allows for Bob to specialize in renderings that fit the needs of the client but also shows the true nature of the hardscape and landscape textures and materials as well as the environment it created. Has been involved with horticultural and landscape design for 15 years.

At Horton Shepardson & Associates, Cathcart Begin Associates, Inc., and as a consultant with other landscape architectural offices, Bob has participated and managed sites of multi-million dollar projects including Civic, Residential and Golf Course developments. He has designed and managed a full range of projects from small scale design elements such as trellises, site furnishings, and project theme elements to model complexes and recreation pool complexes. Bob has also designed large projects and project elements for Master Planned Communities, High Density Family Developments, Golf Course Communities. and Golf Courses landscapes using 3D modeling and various rendering techniques. These techniques allow Land Inventions to show our clients their projects before they break ground, this knowledge allows the client to modify and adjust the project as needed, leading to a better project and happier clients. Land Inventions prides itself in a full service company who's goal is to produce as perfect a final product as possible.

OUR INNOVATIVE GRAPHICS, MODELING, And RENDERINGS can be found in PROJECTS around the world

When we design, we take our design cues from nature itself. The link between the client, the design, and the rendering is our key to a successful project. Because of our background in horticulture, art, and landscape architecture we are able to create plans, graphics and renderings that are the best representation of our client's design intentions.

Landscape Consulting, Design, Drafting, Rendering, and Freelance Services

This is Bob. He likes designing landscape, and playing with markers and colored pencils.

Bob took a more roundabout path to his vocation. Originally wanting to design cars, then to be a golf pro, but his love of design and golf lead him to Horticulture and then into Landscape Architecture. While he still gets to dabble in Golf and Golf design, his new focus is Design, Graphics, and 3D renderings with an emphasis on landscape, hardscape, horticulture and space planning.
